Top Five Coffee Shop Spots to Study
Try saying that five times with a lisp.
We’re all mid-way through the semester now. Exams, essays, and group projects are piling up, so you know what that means?
Overpopulated Starbucks cafes within a five mile radius of any college or university.
When it’s exam season, it’s straight up impossible to find a seat in there! It’s a college student’s nightmare.
I usually love taking a seat at my favorite corner at the Starbucks near campus and sip my pumpkin spice latte while doing homework, but I can’t do that so easily during this time of year!
Look, I know what you’re going to say next.
“Go to the school library, Sar.”
“Just study at home!”
Alright, fine. That’s fair. Hear me out, though. Studying at the library or at home is just not the same! Some of us like a change of scenery, alright?!
That being said, for all my fellow, change of scenery lovers, let me introduce you to some of my favorite coffee shop spots around Los Angeles, and maybe you’ll thank me for steering you away from the corporate caffeine chain.
Located in Granada Hills, R House has a wide variety of drinks and a menu that consists of avocado toasts, fantastic sandwiches, and yummy sweet treats that I love to munch on! Oh, and their music taste? Quite possibly the best! Any coffee shop that plays late 90’s - early 2000’s R&B has my heart.
P.S. Go in throughout October and try out their Halloween menu. That Oreo Matcha Frappenstein is heavenly.
Ah, another favorite in the valley! If you’re a student at CSUN, you’re in luck. Gayle’s Perks is only a block or two away from campus. If you haven’t treated yourself to this sweet joint, then do it! Now! I love the cozy interior of this place. You walk in, and you immediately feel like you’ve stumbled into someone’s little library. Order something to munch and sip on, crack open a book from the shelf, and enjoy!
Rubies + Diamonds
If you’re from the valley, this may be a bit of a drive because it’s located in Hollywood. The parking situation is a bit of a problem, but I was lucky enough to find metered parking on the side of the shop. Are you familiar with Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Hollywood? It’s right across from there! Anyway, trust me when I say this - the drive and the hassle to park is worth it. I swear! The interior of this place is breath-taking and its menu is absolutely exquisite. Try their rose vanilla latte. You’re welcome.
Again, this is a drive for you if you’re from the valley. It’s located in Franklin Village in Hollywood. The parking is a bit more problematic here, and it might take some time to find a spot, but once you do, you’re in for a treat. Bourgeois Pig has always been one of my favorite go-to spots. You’ll come across some particularly interesting people in here. Unlike many coffee shop spots, there’s a freakin’ pool table, too. If you’re tagging along with a friend, give yourselves a study break and rack ‘em up! Order the bourgeois latte.
Where do I start?! To avoid traffic on my way home, I dip into this quaint establishment. Located in Burbank, near Warner Brother Studios, Coffee Commissary is a MUST try. If you’re a student at Woodbury, or you’re working in the area, you have to come by and try their avocado toast. The interior is so cozy, and the outdoor patio is so pretty with all of its greenery. Take your school books or your workload and find yourself a spot to work hard!
Let me know what your favorite coffee spot is below! I love to try new places.
